Crock Pot Baked Apple Recipe
|
|
|
I must say that this crock pot baked apple recipe does sound delicious. I have always meant to adapt my baked apple dish for the crock pot but have not got around to it yet - maybe this is the inspiration I need.
Steve's recipe is a contender in our August 2008 Crock Pot Recipe Contest - and the competition is starting to hot up.
And I can just imagine this served with ice-cream for us sweet tooths.
And thank you Steve for your comments on what types of apples are best - I'm sure this will help us all buy the right ones.

Crock Pot Cranberry Baked Apples Recipe
4 large cooking apples
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup cran-apple juice cocktail
2 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Chopped nuts, if desired
DIRECTIONS:
Core apples.
Fill centers of apples with brown sugar and cranberries.
Place apples in 5-6 quart crock pot.
Mix cran-apple juice and margarine; pour over apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon
and nutmeg.
Cover and cook on low heat setting 4 to 6 hours or until apples are tender.
To serve, spoon apples into dessert dishes. Spoon sauce over apples. Sprinkle
with nuts.
Notes
Use cooking apples that hold their shape after being cooked. Good selections are Rome Beauty, Golden Delicious, Beacon, San Rose, and Wealthy apples.
Granny Smith apples are excellent for this recipe but they are quite tart so you might wannt to add tablespoon of sugar.
