Feb 17, Gluten and Dairy Free Crock Pot Pudding

Diane H has just sent us a note saying how she converted our recipe for Chocolate Pudding to Gluten and Dairy Free.

Your recipe for the crockpot chocolate/boysenberry pudding was great!

I can't do dairy or gluten, so I substituted almond milk for the milk, Smart Balance for the butter, and gluten free flour mix for the flour.

I even made a batch for our church potluck this past Sunday and labeled it as gluten free & dairy free, but that didn't stop people from eating it. It all got eaten.

Thank you for a dessert that tastes great even with using dairy free & gluten free products!

Thank you Diana for helping us all out with these substitutions and making a Gluten Free Dairy Free Crock Pot Dessert Recipe.

Jun 14, Cuban/Puerto Rican Dessert

Cuban/Puerto Rican Dessert
Your coconut rice pudding recipe is well adapted for the crock pot, however I just wanted to let you know that if you use 1/3 cinnamon water and 2/3 regular water, add a dash of nutmeg, and about 3/4 cup of raisins.. then what you have is Arroz Con Leche! a traditional cuban/puerto rican style dessert that is good warm, but even better chilled!
Food for thought :)

May 17, Crock Pot Pudding Recipe A Winner

Hi Lisa

I am very new to slow cooking having purchased my first slow cooker only a few weeks ago.

Thank you for a wonderful website full of lovely recipes. I tried the bread & butter crock pot pudding recipe yesterday and after putting the slow cooker on low we went out for about 4 hours. When we came home, the pudding looked rather dark around the edges, and thought it may have burned, but we were wrong.

It was the most moist, delicious bread & butter pudding we have ever eaten! We will definitely make this again. I have read that the newer slow cookers take less time to cook than the older ones, so perhaps we will keep an eye on it and adjust the times for our cooker.
Gloria K (Australia)

So glad the recipe worked for you as well as it worked for us - it is delicious.

Yes, some of the newer models do run hotter and you may need to adjust the cooking times down accordingly. Just continue using it and you will soon get to know how yours works!

Happy Cooking
Apr 30, Crock Pot Mac Cheese Recipe

Can I make any mac and cheese recipe and then put it in the crockpot instead of baking it? - Teresa

Hi Teresa

I don't suggest that you use any mac and cheese recipe that is designed for the oven and then use in the crock pot. Because the oven and crock pot are totally different in their cooking methods it's not likely to work well.

I suggest you try a mac and cheese recipe that is designed for the crock pot and then adapt to your own liking from there.

This here is my favorite so far:

http://www.a-crock-cook.com/crock-pot-three-cheese-macaroni.html

And here are some others that you may also like to try:

Jan 12, How To "Speed Up" the Crock Pot Cooking?

I have not seen this question talked about on the internet. If I want to "speed up" the cooking and reduce the cooking time can I raise the heat from low to high during the cooking time? If so what should be the corresponding rule of thumb change in heating times? Can I do the reverse?
David (Canada)

Hi David

Thanks for the email.

Generally when going from 'low' to 'high' cooking temperatures you will reduce the cooking time by half and vice verse. So if the recipe says 8 hours on low then 4 hours on high is the rule of thumb.

Most recipes will work equally well on either high or low but occasionally a recipe will only work at one setting and the recipe should state this.

Hope this helps.

Happy Cooking
