Steel cut oats are often called Irish Oats. They have lots more fiber than regular or quick cooking oats. But, they take a lot more time to cook ..... which I do not have.
So I discoved this method and add one apple per serving.
Each serving is 1/4 cup dry steel cut oats and for each serving made, I use 2 cups water and one apple.
Ingredients:
Ingredients for one person serving:
1/4 cup Steel cut oats
2 cus water
1 apple, cored and cut into large chunks - any apple you like
optional : sugar and cinnamon or maple syrup
Spray slow cooker/crock pot with non-stick spray.
Add your water.
Add your steel cut oats.
Add cored, cut up apple. You can peel it or not. I leave the peeling on. And I like large chunks.
I do this before going to bed, so that when I wake up, my healthy and hearty breakfast is ready !
Turn slow cooker/crock pot on low.
Cook for 8-10 hours.
Optional: after finsihed cooking - stir, add sugar or sugar substitute and/or cinnamon to taste , I have also added sugar free maple flavored syrup.
Enjoy.
I have a small 2 quart slow cooker for one or two servings and have made 6 servings in my larger 5 quart slow cooker.

Thanks Dottie
A great recipe and a great commentary with it.
I will be looking for some steel cut oats next time at the store as Neil and I always love our morning oatmeal.
