Vanilla Yogurt Recipe
(Salt Spring Is BC Canada)
2 quarts 2% milk
1/2 c powdered milk
small container of plain yogurt
vanilla to taste
Heat milk to 180F (82C) then cool in fridge to 112F (44C).
Pour into crockpot and add powdered milk, plain yogurt and vanilla stiring to mix well.
Maintain heat of 112 F until yogurt has thickened to proper consistency refidgerate and use.
I add fresh fruit in season.
I have heard of making yogurt in the crock pot and a dear friend has given me her recipe but I have never made it myself.
Will have to give it a try sometime.
Do you heat the milk to 180F to pasteurize it?
Do you use a Thermometer that you stick in occassionally to test the temperature?
How long does it generally take to thicken?
